A location specific post but Canterbury is a popular tourist
hotspot, so if you love food as much me, please read my top 5 suggestions for
eating in the town:
BOHO
This is the cutest cafe in Canterbury by far but for some
reason took me over a year to discover. The only drawback to BOHO is its size,
although any bigger and it may lose its quaint charm. There are only about 10
small tables so I would advise arriving before meal time rushes in order to
avoid disappointment. They have a vast range of drinks, savouries and sweets,
all of which are really good. The decoration is warm and homey and houses an
eclectic range of antique decorations. Opening times vary but is always open in day time hours. Definitely worth the visit.
Would recommend: The burgers, the chorizo sandwich, the
cloudy lemonade
Chocolate Cafe
I promise that you will never taste waffles better than you
do here. This quaint cafe has easygoing opening hours but is generally open
from about 10am to 10pm. As the name would suggest, there are many items on the
menu which contain chocolate, you can even buy individual handmade chocolates
but they do also serve savoury snacks and light meals and soups. Seriously
though, you have to try the waffle. With chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Oh. My. God.
Would recommend: THE WAFFLE
La Trappiste
A family run French restaurant in the heart of Old
Canterbury. Special touches include the drink recommendations to every meal on
the menu and the unique decoration. Upstairs is light and airy if you can
secure a table up there. Their pizzas, whilst not particularly French, are
seriously good - even rivalling more main-stream restaurants.
Would recommend: The pizzas, their suggestions (generally
very good)
Number 12
Canterbury is full of places where you can have afternoon
tea. Literally every other shop does it. But I personally think this is the
best. If you time it right and manage to secure a scone which has just come out
of the oven, you view of this English favourite will be changed forever. Not to
mention that this cafe is just outside the Canterbury Cathedral gates, so you
can kill two landmarks with one stone.
Would recommend: The cream teas
Mrs Jones Kitchen
A really lovely English restaurant with great food all day
long and a friendly, efficient service. The back streets of Canterbury are where
you find some of the best independent restaurants and this is no exception. If
you’re a student and missing mum’s cooking, take refuge here.
Would recommend: Their breakfasts, great veggie option too
